After dark London is illuminated with colour as the lights get low.  Learn how to capture evocative night street photography with ease as you get in closer than you ever thought possible to capture candid street photography.  Led by professional Fine Art Photographer Lou Smith, explore the colours of Soho, the small streets of Covent Garden and other Central London locations to get your best ever night street shots.

This is a masterclass in photographing street at night.  Explore light, ambiance and different locations to capture stunning night street photography.

What To Expect

  • Experiment with Exposure: Try different shutter speeds, apertures, and ISO settings to achieve the desired effect.
  • Utilize Available Light: Look for sources of light like street lamps, neon signs, or car headlights to illuminate your subjects.
  • Practice and Experiment: Night photography is a skill that takes time to master. Don’t be afraid to experiment and learn from your mistakes.
  • Make Effective Use of Locations: Explore side streets in addition to the main thoroughway, identify the most important element to include in  each scene.
  • Framing:  Try a variety of different framing and compositional techniques.
  • Finding Inspiration: Discovering techniques for finding unique and interesting subjects in urban environments.
  • Camera Handling: Work handheld, pushing ISO to the max as the light gets low.  For close candid capture it’s essential to work handheld.
  • Review of Work Completed:  On going review to help you achieve your goals and increase your depth of knowledge about street photography.
  • Private Experience: This course is private to you as 1:1 tuition or private to your own personal group.

 

By combining the right equipment with a bit of planning and practice, you can capture stunning night street photography that showcases the unique atmosphere and beauty of urban environments.  Overall, a night street photography course can provide you with a solid foundation in technical skills, creative techniques, and practical experience, enabling you to capture stunning images of the city and its people after dark.

What To Bring

  • Bring your own camera, either DSLR or mirrorless.
  • A fully charged battery and spare battery if you have one
  • Large memory card to hold the additional photos you will take during the course
  • Bring a prime lens if you have one – the nifty 50 is ideal as it is fast and handles low light very well
