Standing in the Shadows – Street Photography

Street Photography with Lou Smith Fine Art Photography

Dramatic Lighting Creates Intense Street Photography

This photograph combines elements of Creative Seeing in the composition – abstraction of forms, textures, exploring rich tonal contrasts and utilizing light and shade.  The waiting figure adds the Street photography element.  A sense of what is happening, what is going on, what is about to happen? is created.

The visibility of the figure emerges slowly from within the shadows which creates an evocative sense of mystery.  It’s not always necessary to see everything crisply in a photograph.  The angle of view, looking down adds another intense element to the photograph.  A moment later the man has gone and the scene has changed!  Street photography is fast and you have to be quick to capture the shot as the moment is elusive and ever-changing.

“There is a creative fraction of a second when you are taking a picture. Your eye must see a composition or an expression that life itself offers you, and you must know with intuition when to click the camera. That is the moment the photographer is creative. Oop! The Moment! Once you miss it, it is gone forever.”- Henri Cartier-Bresson
