Colour Street Photography

The digital era enables photography to be instantly reviewed and gives photographers access to colour post processing.  Back in the day, black and white was more readily able to be processed in a home dark room.  Now photographers have instant choices; shoot in black and white or visualise in colour.  Colour adds an important dynamic to street photography as it becomes part of the narrative of colour street photography.

Abstract Form

Today the sun is shining and I feel the power of the elements around me.  This time of year is when everything awakens from a long sleep.  Day light is longer and the sense of seeing lingers when light is luminous.  The air is fresh, cool on my face and the breeze drifts around me.  I like the feel of the invigoration of the day.  Everywhere around me are elements of abstraction for exploring abstract form.  This is a good day to create abstract images…

Abstraction in the City

Reflections Create Abstract Forms

Today in the City of London it is a day within which it is easy to chase light.  Light flows freely along the streets and reflects off the sleek surfaces of modern buildings creating alleyways of illumination.

Photography is about light and our digital sensors love light if you handle it with sensitivity.  The light today gives an opportunity to create an abstract image using London architecture as a starting point.  (more…)

Changing Face of London

Victorian Terrace
Contrast of the Old and the New

London is a fast moving city. The landscape and make up of this city is ever changing. Central London has had a huge development of luxury apartments and modern office space. The design of modern architecture is effortlessly sleek and I like the clean lines. Homes have also started to look like offices as clean lines are echoed throughout living spaces. (more…)

Garden of Light at Leicester Square

Garden of Light, Lumiere London at Leicester Square

On Saturday 16th January we made our way through the crowds at Trafalgar Square to find an even bigger squeeze of people at Leicester Square, which has been transformed into an Enchanted Garden of Light and Colour.

Lumiere London

Lumiere London – Festival of Light

I saw a news story about Lumiere London at Kings Cross and decided to go along and photograph the illuminations.  Ron and I travelled into London on the Saturday evening.  As we made our way to Kings Cross we quickly realised that London was packed.  We changed our route as public transport was disabled between many of the sites and made our way on foot instead.  We were in for a busy evening as London bustled with crowds, who came to see this exciting event. Sculptural Form of Trees

Photographing Sculptural Forms

Today in the park I came across a grand tree which is tall in stature reaching up towards the sky.  The tree was so tall I had to tilt my head right back to admire its stretch.  The top of the tree trunk was broken, perhaps a storm or lightning strike.  I look up and admire, seeing all the branches stretching towards the light.  I love the textures of the trunk, quite gnarled in places.  This tree has been here for a long time and stands silently watching life as it passes by.  The branches and trunk are sculptural in form.  I still stop, looking up enjoying what I see. The Colours of Autumn

Photographing the Colours of Autumn

It was one of those days when you first head out the light is filtered and just right for getting the best colours of autumn. Arriving at the location the light changed and suddenly everything is dull and flat. Not to be put off I frame a few shots always looking up at the sky. Cloud is dense and the chance of the sun filtering through seemed for another day. I didn’t want to miss this day of photography though, as the trees still have leaves and I want to capture the colours of autumn. (more…)

Autumn Mist

Misty Days of Autumn

Autumn Mist
Misty Days of Autumn

On looking out of my window this morning I see fog and very little else.  Ah…this will be a great day to photograph the Autumn mist in my local park.  I check the forecast and there are a good few hours of mist.  Great this will let me have a concentrated morning’s shoot with no worries.  Towards mid-day the fog will lift and lingering misty conditions will remain.  I imagine the atmosphere of my shots as I head out. The Shard looks great today, bathed in the fresh and airy light of Autumn. Cool, crisp colours are in the air!

Making my way to London to capture Autumn light in the City I find that I cannot resist yet another shot of the Shard. (more…)
